I need to make fish stock for cooking, something that takes about 3 lbs of white fish bones,. I’ve been told to try Asian markets, but the couple I’ve tried couldn’t help me. Does anyone know any places in West Los Angeles where I can get fishbones? Please be specific, as I’ve already tried several places.

Just go buy a whole fish, trim, take it from there.

I usually get fish head in Korea town or a chinese market in Monterey park. Hey try Santa monica seafood. There a fish wholesaler, and I think they filet their own. Call them up I don’t want you to waste a trip.

I would check meat/fishmarkets closer to the water. I am amazed that nobody will sell you any fish bones. Second option would be to try fish stores or gourmet shops to see if they will sell you some fish stock.

NOW, if you still can’t find fish bones, and there are no gourmet shops that will sell you some already made fish stock, buy clam juice in a bottle and use that instead of the stock.

    Good luck.

You can also substitute a vegetable stock or even chicken stock. Its not like your recipe will blow up your kitchen or home if you dont use fish stock. Vegetable stock would be faster to do, take onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc and bring to a slow simmer for about an hour, and you are set.

Go to any fishmonger and ask for fish frames. THat’s what you’re looking for.

You be better of buying yourself some fish, fillet them, you would have two meals ,use the bones for your stock, then use you fillets for your meals, would be better on the wallet, yup
