My friend and I are planning on traveling on a road trip from Los Angeles to NJ. Suggestions on where to stop?

Hi. My friend and I are planning a road trip from Los Angeles to New Jersey this March and we’re looking for some suggestions on where to stop. To give you an idea, we already want to stop at the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore and Yosemite National park. Any suggestions on our cross-country trip would be really appreciated!

    I, too, have thought about this with driving from Ohio to Nevada. I would definitely stop at those places you listed. Think about what other places that you tow would like to see. If you get into shopping maybe the Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN. You can see the Arch in St. Louis. You have Niagara Falls in NY or Canada. If you haven’t seen it go to D.C. and see all that’s there. Of course you have to stop in Ohio because that is where I am from

    When I was younger, my parents and I drove across the US twice, once in the south and once in the NY. Trying to squeeze in the Grand Canyon and Yosemite both will take you way out of your way. Since you live in CA, I’d suggest skipping Yosemite for now, and then take a trip up to SF/Yosemite in the future. If you agree, then I suggest:
    - LA (departure point)
    - Las Vegas
    - Grand Canyon
    - New Mexico (Albuquerque / Santa Fe)
    - Denver, CO
    - Rapid City / Mt Rushmore
    - Minneapolis (Mall of America)
    - Chicago
    - Cleveland (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame)
    - NJ (destination — but stop by NYC!!)

    If you change your mind and take a southern route, I’d suggest:
    - LA (departure point)
    - Las Vegas
    - Grand Canyon
    - Roswell, New Mexico
    - Austin / San Antonio, TX
    - New Orleans, LA
    - Slight southern detour to Orlando, FL
    - Savannah, GA
    - Charleston, SC / Myrtle Beach, SC
    - Williamsburg, VA / Virginia Beach, VA
    - Washington, DC
    - Baltimore, MD
    - Philadelphia, PA
    - New Jersey (destination — again, stop over NYC!!)
